For the past six years, sixteen year old Gemma has felt like
someone was watching her, but she brushed the feeling aside. Who would be all that interested in her? And even if someone was watching,
wasn’t it a little nice to be noticed every once in awhile anyway?
That is, until she runs into Ty, a slightly older guy, at an
airport in Bangkok. Without her
realizing it, he slips a drug into her coffee. She falls asleep, only to wake up in a homemade
cabin—without electricity, without phones, and-most importantly-without any
idea how to get back to civilization.
But Ty doesn’t want to hurt her. He just wants her to stay with him, away from the world, for
forever.
Written from Gemma’s perspective addressing Ty, Stolen by Lucy Christopher is a
compelling read, exploring the complex nature of human relationships. Lucy Christopher does a great job of
presenting two strong protagonists: a kidnapper that is more complicated than
evil, and a kidnapped girl that won’t settle from being stolen away from
home.
Already read Stolen? If you liked it, give Gaston Leroux’s The Phantom of the Opera a try. Lucy Christopher tastefully modernizes
Leroux’s classic story.
