Dennis has lived all his life under his parents’ expectation that one day he will become of all things a gastroenterologist.  He goes to college and med school, but he can’t seem to overcome his passionate and distracting love of videogames.  After his father dies, he drops out—and that’s when things take a turn for the strange.  Four small, cheerful angels come to set Dennis back on track to follow his destiny.  Even with their assistance, Dennis starts to realize that only he can figure out what he is meant to do—no matter what family, friends, or weird angels say.
Gene Luen Yang, the creator of American Born Chinese, returns with a familiar mix of humor and stark sincerity.  This time around he worked with illustrator Thien Pham, and together they handle the expectations and dreams parents have for their children.  Level Up is perfect summertime read for anyone who likes video games (and for people who don’t!), and it can be found on the second floor of Urbana Free tucked into Adult Non Fiction with other fun and thought-provoking graphic novels!
