Fans of Sarah Dessen (author of Lock and Key, Just Listen, etc) will be thrilled to see that she has a new novel out, Along for the Ride. It follows Auden, a reserved and academically-minded recent high school grad in her summer before starting a prestigious college. To get some space from her controlling mother, she makes an impulsive decision to spend her summer with her father and his new wife and baby in the beachside town of Colby.
Auden's initial plans to get a headstart on college readings go awry when she unexpectedly gets involved in the lives of those around her. She bonds with her new baby sister, makes real friends for the first time, and meets a mysterious bicyclist (and fellow insomniac) named Eli. Auden comes to realize all the things she has missed out on, but that it is not too late to make up for it by seeking out her own kind of adventure.
