American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang

I just read this fantastic graphic novel by Gene Yang. Here's how he describes the book on his website: "With American Born Chinese, I'm trying to say something about my experiences growing up as an Asian-American by telling three different stories. The first stars the Monkey King, folk hero of Chinese legend; the second recounts the struggles of a Chinese-American boy trying to fit into a predominantly white suburb; and the third is a sit-com starring everybody's favorite racial stereotype, Cousin Chin-Kee." Yang's drawings are great and the color and quality of the book are top-notch. It's a great story about how ugly prejudice can be, and about how tough it can be to accept yourself, but even though the message is deep, the story has some great humor and unexpected twists. Highly recommended.
